He is Risen!

"On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men  in clothes that gleamed like lightening stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again." Then they remembered his words." ~Luke 24:1-8

When we lived in Ireland one of the people we spent the most time with was our friend, Tom. Tom is an atheist (which is important for the rest of this story to make sense). One weekend we spent with Tom at his parents house, it was a lovely get away from our normal lives. I'll never forget a conversation that took place one morning. We were all gathered around the breakfast table (it was Adam, and also a man named Il-Seung (who was a Christian and doing some post-doctoral work at the institute as well), myself, Tom, and his mother). Tom's mother is a Catholic (also important to understand this story).Tom's mother was talking about how she believed what the Bible said but had a hard time believing in the resurrection of Jesus. I think her exact words were "but I believe in all the other bits" (or something cute and Irish to that affect). Obviously the Christians in the room thought this was kinda funny and clearly problematic and I think we chuckled a bit but then Tom (who doesn't believe that Jesus was who he said he was) points out the obvious and says "Mom, you can't exactly have the "other bits" without that bit." DING DING DING!! At this we all gave a louder chuckle b/c even the atheist in the room recognizes how futile our faith is without the resurrection. If Jesus didn't rise from the dead then our faith is worthless, the "other bits" don't all. (Please hear me, I'm not mocking Tom or his mom in any way. We all found this whole conversation amusing and all got a good laugh out of it, and Tom's mom said something like "oh, you guys!!!"). There was a vast array of beliefs in the room that morning, we all love and respect each other and I want this story to come across the way it was intended. The real point being: if Jesus didn't rise from the dead then our faith is futile, but because he did, and he is alive we have hope in what's to come. For the Christian Easter morning is the crux of our faith and a joyous day to celebrate! I wish you all a lovely day in celebrating the risen Lord!! Happy Easter, all!! xo

I remember when I was in elementary school my mom saying it seemed like we were out of school more than we were in, well, now that my daughter is in kindergarten, AND since I pay for private school I feel much more aware of how many days she is out of school. She just had spring break, that's great so did everyone else, now its Easter break. That's fine, getting out at noon on Thursday, getting Friday and Monday off, I get that. But here's the real kicker, there is some Catholic training that the whole school is required to attend and so B has off THE WHOLE FOLLOWING NEXT WEEK OF SCHOOL. I'm sorry, but that is RIDICULOUS TO ME! She just had spring break for petesake!! BUT, here's the REAL kicker...when I picked her up from school yesterday she seemed "off," pretty lethargic and tired and just not her usual self. Sure enough, a couple hours later she had a fever. Sigh. So, she's home from school today, and the likelihood of her going back before she gets out at noon on Thursday is probably not real high. So, her 1 week and 1.5 day  break is going to turn into nearly 2 full weeks!! You better believe I asked her teacher if I got a discount on tuition this month! (I don't, in case you're wondering).  So, this was going to be "my week," my first week off at Baylor and my first real week to get things done. Sigh. Obviously I'm sad my kid doesn't feel well, that goes without saying I hope, but man, 2 weeks Well, I'm going to continue my pity party while I edit these two lovebirds. Prayers for my kid are appreciated. :) xo

how is it Monday already?

I'm not sure where this weekend went? We didn't do too much, Adam and I both worked a lot (boo!) but it doesn't feel like it should be Monday just yet! I had a hard time getting out of bed this morning, now I gotta shower real quick and head to Bible study. I blogged this sweet family over here so check that out! Have a great Monday, all! xo

fun things

I'm getting that there.aren' feeling right now. SO much is going on but all fun things! Last night I hosted my co-workers from Baylor and we had a "farewell" dinner. It was a great excuse to get the house clean (thanks for all the help to my fabulous husband for that!), and I haven't really "entertained" in a while so it was fun to be in the my kitchen making yummy food for a crowd. Its so weird seeing work folks outside of work, isn't it? Its just a different dynamic but fun! I adore my supervisor so it was fun being friends and not just co-workers last night. We had a great time, but man am I tired today! It was Greek food for dinner, I made grilled chicken skewers (which I've posted before), I tried a new appetizer of these Greek pita pizzas (can't remember where the recipe is, essentially you top pita with sun dried tomato pesto, add mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, feta, and parmesan cheese and sprinkle with olive oil and bake at 350 for 12 mins). I also made Ina Garten's Greek salad, we had pita and hummus, tzatziki, tabouleh, and I made a chocolate truffle cheesecake for dessert (which I'll try and blog later!). It was pretty tasty if I do say so myself!

Right now I'm gearing up to host a Magnolia and Plum trunk show at my house in a week and a half! I'm trying to get some half-done projects completed beforehand. I need to finish painting the hallway upstairs, I'm hoping to bite the bullet and order a light fixture and have it hung in my living room (I've ordered 2, hated them both and sent them back). My sweet father-in -law is coming next month to put up the back splash in the kitchen (cannot.wait), and then...we'll be on to something else! :) Always a project waiting in the wings!

Speaking of fun things, I had the opportunity to shoot for Plum a week ago to showcase their spring line! Head on over here to see images from this shoot and shop away!! xo

Spring Break 2013 ~ San Antonio, TX

We got back from San Antonio today, we're tired but happy! We had a g.r.e.a.t. time! I'm pretty sure I gained 5 pounds as I ate my weight in chips and salsa but man, it was so good! We walked along the river walk, ate lunch on the river walk (they colored the river green for St. Patty's Day), took a river boat cruise, went to the alamo, a wax museum, Ripley's believe it or not museum, went to Sea World, B swam in the hotel pool, we sat in the sun eating snow cones, and just had a nice, relaxing trip. We all loved San Antonio and added it to the "places we'd be happy to live" list. Only lame aspects were that B had a run in with a brick wall our first day there and had a huge goose egg on her forehead (boo!), and poor Adam woke up with pink eye! Those 2 things were minor set-backs, but all in all a big success! We loved it and all have fond memories of spring break 2013. :) I made the executive decision to not bring my camera and I'm so glad I didn't! First of all, its super heavy to carry around all day, and secondly, you get crazy wet at sea world! I only used my phone to capture our trip but I think it paints a pretty accurate picture. Much love. xo

I forget about real life

During spring break I forget about real life going on, I tend to think the whole world is on spring break. I guess that's what happens when you're married to a professor, live in a college town that all of a sudden feels empty, go to a college church that practically is empty, and your kid is home all day. I should be at work today, technically this was going to be my last week at Baylor until I realized Adam still had to teach at one of this jobs, and B would have no one home with her -oops! So next week will be my last week at Baylor (which means I'm really only leaving 1 week before the job is officially over). I really drug out that departure! So far spring break has been off to a chill start. Poor B was pretty bored yesterday since Adam and I both had a good amount of work to do. We're trying to get all caught up before we head to San Antonio on Friday (which is when spring break really starts for the Winns). B even gets to miss 1 extra day of school! Last night British Jon had us over for dinner, he made a feast and I'm still full at nearly 10am this morning. B fell asleep in one of his chairs b/c we were there so late, but that's what spring break is all about right?! Staying out late, sleeping in, lounging around, etc... Tomorrow I have to go to the dentist (ICK!). I've been dreading it, I haven't gone in I don't know how long and I'm not looking forward to what he will likely find! I'm sure there is a cavity or something looming! I hate going to the dentist, I'd pretty much rather do anything else (which, is why I supposed as an adult that I haven't forced myself to go - mom doesn't make me do it any more!).

Tonight some good friends are going out to dinner to try and cheer up a friend who's home was robbed this week. Sigh. That's the harsh reality of living in Waco...people get robbed all.the.time. So many of our friends have had their homes broken into, its so sad. Lots of her jewelry was stolen, precious things from relatives that she can't buy back. I hope dinner tonight takes her mind off things for a bit. Our home was broken into (while we were sleeping) when we lived in California, that peace of mind is something that I don't know ever fully comes back. Its such a violating feeling. So if you think of it, send some prayers for my friend.

I think I'd rambled long enough here today, no? I hope whether you're on spring break or not that you are having a great week! Thanks for checking in. xo

3 S's

I'm a little stressed this morning which brings me to the first of the three S's. My website is having technical difficulties, NOTHING stresses me out like technical problems. Most of my readers know that my email was hacked into last week, (sorry about the spam that got sent to everyone in my contacts) that was stressful, now website issues...that's a whole other ball of wax! Especially since this is such a busy time for my business. I'm trying to take deep breaths and think about the big the grand scheme, this is really no big deal. Breathing.....

Second S, spring break! This next week B has off for spring break, so does Baylor, so does Adam...kind of. This year Baylor and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor don't have the same spring break (Boooooo!) and since Adam teaches for both, he gets 2 weeks of partial spring break (pretty lame if you ask me!). Anyhoo, that meant we really couldn't do too much for spring break this year so we've decided to go to San Antonio for a few days!

Which brings me to S number 3! San Antonio! We've lived in Texas close to 3 years but really haven't ventured out too much beyond Austin, Dallas, and Waco is the time! Next week we're heading to San Antonio to go to sea world and hang out at the river walk, fun! The weather is supposed to be in the 80s, sounds like perfection to me! It'll be nice to get outta dodge for a few days, experience something new, and see more of Texas. I love little trips/experiences like this!

Well, to help my stress level this am I'm gonna go do some Bible study homework and get my priorities a little more in order. :) Have a great weekend everyone! xo

We love cousin Mike!

Cousin Mike was in town from the Bahamas this weekend and it was so fun! Adam worked Friday so Mike and I went to lunch and saw "Jack Reacher" (lame movie but good company so I'll call it a win!). That night we got a sitter and the 3 of us went and saw "Zero Dark Thirty," interesting to see the story unfold. Saturday we headed down to Austin and had lunch at the YUMMY Hula Hut, went shopping to get some things Mike needed, and stopped for cupcakes before heading home. As always, the visit went too fast but we loved having him. Now its already Monday morning, I'm rushing out the door to get to Bible study but head on over HERE to see pics of a cutie patootie senior. Happy Monday, all! xo

the blog lives to die another day

Well, I still don't really know what the future looks like for this sad little blog but I'm still pluggin' along today! We had a fun surprise, cousin Mike was in town from the Bahamas for work and he came from Dallas to Waco yesterday to see us! I barely got the sheets clean/bed made from my bro-in-law who was here last weekend before Mike walked in the door! We love to have him and convinced him to change his plane ticket and stay a little longer. :) I had a pretty wide open day today (in which I was planning to get caught up on things that always seem to get neglected, ie cleaning, laundry, etc.) as you can imagine, I'd much rather play with Mike! Adam has to teach 1 class today so Mike and I are going on a "date" to the movies. :)

Several of you have asked about my church gathering on Wednesday and if I have an "tidbits" to share. Really, the time ended up being about how to serve our community here in Waco in the midst of busyness and to brainstorm some ideas abuot what that might look like so...sorry, not too helpful to the masses. I do think March will be crazy no matter which way I slice it, but I think some reprieve will come in April. I just need to time manage well and stay on top of things. With that said, if the blog is super quiet in faithful readers have been warned. :)

Last night for dinner I made Coq Au Vin with roasted potatoes. B even liked it! Its an adaptation from an Ina Garten recipe and similar to other things I've made by Ina...super tasty and really didn't take too long.

All right dear readers, I'm gonna get going. I need to run to the bank, post office, and drop some photos off to the realtor I work for before my big date with Mike! Have a great weekend!! xo

Here are some random instagrams from Winn life as of late:

B's wedding of her 2 weenie dogs, me and B waiting for daddy and uncle abel to get back from the airport (they took forever!), adam and i ate breakfast together last Friday morning and it was lovely, british jon turned 38 and had a bbq to celebrate!
