it's "that" time

I've been anticipating "this" time for a while now, last week was the calm before the storm but now...IT'S ON! I got back from Seattle last night, worked most of the night and then proceeded to lay in bed until 1am thinking of all I had to get done in the next 3 and a half weeks before Adam and I go (on our MUCH needed) vacation! It's going to be a busy time ya'll...the blog will likely be very quiet so I apologize in advance! I have MUCH to blog but also MUCH to edit in the next month so I can actually relax and enjoy my vacation. So, feel free to send some prayers of peace and efficiency my way! :) I have another wedding to shoot this weekend and B is the flower girl so that makes it even more fun/special (and its one of "my kids" so its already extra special :). Here is a peek from the wedding I shot on Saturday in Seattle ~ it didn't rain!!! It was windy and chilly but no rain so hooray for that!! Much more to come!! xo

mental health week

I took a "mental health week" starting on Tuesdayish and it was much needed. I have really felt that since August that we've been extremely busy and haven't had 2 seconds of peace. Don't get me wrong, we've done lots of fun things, its just been busy. This was the first week since B has gone back to school where I felt like I had a couple days to just be. I was caught up on work, we didn't have much social stuff going on, the laundry was done, the house wasn't a total disaster, and I actually had time to just sit and it was glorious. Yesterday was the most beautiful Waco day so for the first time since living here, I grabbed a blanket, and laid on our back porch (for lack of a better word, we don't really have a back porch). It was so nice to soak up some sun and just relax for an hour or so before picking B up from school. Ahhh. Today I need to pack and get on the road to Austin to catch my flight to Seattle. I've been watching the weather in Seattle like a hawk! Its changed numerous times, for now its showing a sun with rain and a high of 61 degrees on Saturday. As long as we get a little break from the rain I'll take it!! I'm sure it will be a lovely wedding, I already can't wait to share the photos with you! Adam and Doug are picking up the tile for the back splash as I type, can't wait to come home and see how it all turns out! Yay!!

Well folks, I think that's all I got for now...hope everyone has a lovely weekend! xo

(Here are some random instagrams of Winn life as of late):

B with Granddad, the apple/raspberry pie I made for British Jon, a stop sign I got at a Magnolia show that I have no idea what to do with (I had a plan, it didn't work out), and a random pic B drew at school of Saint Katharine and an Indian?

Monday already?

This weekend went by too fast. British Jon's dinner party was on Friday night and that was a lot of fun. The recipes turned out well, I would definitely recommend the pie! Doug came in Friday late afternoon and left at the crack of dawn on Saturday to visit a friend but he'll be back tomorrow night and B is super ready for granddad to come and stay a while. :) Saturday B had a birthday party to go to and then we spent the evening with good friends eating pizza and chatting the night away while the kids played in the backyard. Sunday we had church, went out to lunch with some friends, and then we back at church Sunday night for a love feast to celebrate paying off our church building. I then came home and made yummy coffee cake muffins for Bible Study this morning, I'll see if I can find the recipe online and share it b/c they were delish! (Who doesn't like coffee cake, anyway?!). Needless to say, Monday morning came a little too fast and now I'm tired and feel like I need another weekend! This weekend will be a busy one too, I'm off to Seattle to shoot a wedding, so it will be a whirlwind for sure! Please pray for no rain in Seattle this Saturday!!! I think that's all the haps around here. I hope you are all enjoying your Monday. Now head on over HERE to check out this engagement session! xo

dinner party line up & a cute senior

Fun things are happening today in the Winn house! My father-in-law flies in today, yay! B is so excited and keeps asking "When will granddad be here?!" Tonight I'm hosting a dinner party for our friend British Jon who recently got tenure at Baylor! This is no small feat, and I wanted him to feel celebrated so here is the line up for dinner:

Appetizer: Shrimp Cocktail

Dinner: Short Ribs with Wine and Cream

Mixed Field Greens with candied pecans, gorgonzola, and cranberries

Sundried Tomato and Mushroom Macaroni and Cheese (which I've linked before)

Dessert: Blackberry Cheesecake or Apple Raspberry Pie A La Mode

So, I've come to realize why I don't host more dinner parties, for tonight's line up (I love you ALL), we have 2 folks who are lactose intolerant, therefore I have to keep the cheese out of the salad and let folks put it on themselves, they likely won't eat the mac n' cheese, and the guest of honor requested a fruity cheesecake which they can't eat. I have another guest who can't eat nuts, therefore, the pecans will have to stay on the side of the salad, and therefore I had to make another dessert b/c there are pecans in the crust of the cheesecake (and the 2 lactose intolerant guests need an additional option). Two of the guests are ethicatarians and will only eat meat purchased from the World Relief Hunger Farm or the farmers market. Well, the farmers market isn't until tomorrow so I missed that boat, and the Hunger Farm didn't have the specific meat I needed for tonight's meal (I really would've trekked all the way out there to buy it if they had it). I'm hoping the macaroni dish will be sufficient as a main meal with the salad, and that at least one of the desserts is accommodating to everyone. Sigh. It's tough to feed the masses, no?! :) I'm delighted to have everyone over to celebrate Jon, it will be super fun, and really, the more food options the better right? :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend! We have a birthday party, a bridal shower, and a love feast at church, should be fun! Now, head on over HERE to check out this senior! xo

Brennan Manning

For those of you who follow me on instagram and/or facebook, you already saw that we're celebrating and mourning the life of Brennan Manning in the Winn household. I know he's been in poor health for some time, and that really, he just longed to be in Abba's arms, which makes this such a bittersweet time. I told Adam that we should drive to New Orleans for his funeral -to which he quickly pointed out we weren't invited, nor would they likely release that info (due to crazy fans (for lack of a better word) like us). I want so badly to be part of the celebration of his life, and I would love for Brennan to see a glimpse of who her namesake was, how much he was loved and admired by so many, how many lives he touched. When I told Brennan that he passed she said "Why did you have to tell me that?" It made her sad. I explained that I thought she should know, and that really, it was okay b/c he was with Jesus now and that's really where he wanted to be. I feel like I would be remiss to not say anything here about his life and how he touched mine. I've never been a stranger to God's love and grace, thankfully I've known this truth from a young age and its never not been a part of my life. With that said, Brennan Manning showed me glimpses of God's grace in ways I hadn't understood it before, the passion in his voice when he describes how much we're loved even in the midst of our darkest days and our most horrid sins. I don't know how anyone could walk away unchanged. I've had the privilege to extend grace to some lately, some who are in a bad place, who feel unloved and like they are at their bottom. Its been a journey for me, b/c if I'm being honest, I wanted to be mad at them and judge them. How quickly I forget the grace that's been given to me when I'm put in a position to give it to the "unworthy." Brennan Manning changed my life, he changed my husband's life, he made me see God's love for me in a new way and for that I am forever thankful and grateful. It's such an honor that my child gets to carry his name, and that I get to explain to her that she was named after a divorced, ex-priest, alcoholic who really understood that "it is only through grace that we can dare to become more like Christ." Which at the end of the day, is all life is really about. Thank you, Brennan, and see you soon.

the show & engagements

I've had a couple folks ask me about the show I hosted at my home last week so I thought I'd share! Magnolia and Plum are well-known here in Waco and they teamed up and decided to host a trunk show! Basically Magnolia brought home decor items and Plum brought clothing/jewelry, etc. and ladies came and went all day purchasing fun things. It was fun! You too can purchase from Plum and Magnolia, so shop from your living room and enjoy! Here is a peek at the day. xo

1. set up the night before 2. show 3. show 4. show 5. rosemary lemon bundt cake

I'm having technical difficulties & food

I've attempted to do a blog post several times today on my other blog and things just aren't happening. Some technical issue is preventing me from uploading/posting so I'm at a loss. Boo. So, since I can't share any photos I figured I'd post some foodie stuff. I've been pretty faithful in trying new recipes so here is what's been coming out of my kitchen:

*Pioneer Woman Lemon and Rosemary Scones

OH.MY.WORD. These may be the best scones I've ever had and I would say some of the best things to come out of my kitchen...ever. TRY this recipe.

sorry this is my only photo

*Lemon Ice Box Cookies

I made these for the show I had at my house last Thursday and they were a big hit!! Easy and ymmy!

*Lemon Rosemary Bundt Cake

Sooo I can't find the recipe I used but it was delicious and I'm sure if you google it something close to the one I made will show up. :)

*Baked Penne with Chicken and Sundried Tomatoes

I made this chicken pasta for dinner the night before the show I hosted in my home last week. My friends were oohing and ahhing over the smell and I had plenty so it was their lunch the next day. Everyone (myself included) loved it! I would definitely recommend.

*Lighter Chicken Enchiladas

Okay, these were tasty but SPICY. If you love a kick I would recommend, if not, you may want to pass. (Adam loved em)

I'll be blogging a chocolate truffle cheesecake that I made over at Plum soon so check back for that.

Well, I think that's all I got for now! Thanks for checking in! xo

death & taxes

The blog title today isn't meant to be witty. As I sit here starring at the tax documents I need to do to keep molly winn photography legit my heart is so heavy with the loss of sweet Val. My dear friends lost their mom yesterday to a long battle with cancer. My heart is breaking for them. Last week I sat with my friend Kristin as she shared videos and photos of her sweet boy who would have been 10 but lost his battle to cancer 4 years ago. My own dad has beat cancer twice, and I still get to have him, and I'm so thankful. None of this is fair, and life is hard. Taxes seem really trivial today, but life goes on, doesn't it? Sometimes I want to curl up in a ball and shut out the outside world b/c it just seems like too much. People carry around so much hurt and pain and it seems overwhelming. Sorry, I'm not wanting to be a big downer today, I want to be thankful that I got to know Val, and that Kristin got to be Isaiah's mom for 6 years. I want to rejoice in knowing that God is good all the time, even when it hurts. Life does go on, and taxes do need to be paid. If you think of it, say some prayers for my friends, they could really use them right now.

Here is a peek of an engagement session I'm working on, more to come. xo

B on Easter 2013

Every year I drag B outside on Easter morning to take a picture of her in her Easter dress, and every year, its 5 minutes of torture. I'm not sure what has happened but about a year ago, whenever I get my camera out to take her picture she says she can't open her eyes because its "too bright"  (she says this when there is no sun in the sky). Sigh. So, here is all I got, not great but it will have to do. :)

A couple days before Easter I took this picture right when I got home from a shoot and so I had my camera in my hand and B was happy to let me snap for 30 seconds. I think I'll pretend this is her real Easter photo this year. :) This photo better portrays who my girl really is at this stage in her life. I love this face!

Whew! Busy Day Ahead!

The Magnolia/Plum trunk show is tomorrow!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say I got my work cut out for me today! House cleaning, baking Martha Stewart's lemon ice box cookies, a lemon rosemary bundt cake, and mini cupcakes with lemon buttercream (do you notice a theme? :), and laundry! I'm tired already! Yesterday was more of what today will be and we had mi casa last night. Since B doesn't have school this week we decided a mi casa field trip was in order so we went and saw the movie "The Croods." We had the whole theatre to ourselves so that was fun! The movie was actually really good! I had to stay up late editing a house so I'm feeling pretty tired and its only 8:30am (doesn't bode well for the rest of the day!). I'm super excited about the show tomorrow, it will be a fun day of visiting with lovely gals and snacking on yummy lemon goodies. If you're in Waco, come on by!!!

For now, head on over HERE to check out this senior! xo
