sickie B

So today was going to be my day alone, to get things done, relax, clean, run errands, etc. I had the whole day until I was to pick B up from school all.to.myself. (I even had lunch plans with a friend)! I was so looking forward to it. Yesterday when B got home from school she declined a snack -WHAT?! I knew right then and there something was up. She laid on the couch watching cartoons and as the day went on her cheeks got rosey and she seemed really lethargic. I asked if she wanted to go to Target to get a new bathing suit for our big hotel stay tomorrow and she said yes. I watched her at Target, and poor thing seemed just not her usual self. She finally admitted to not feeling great and she didn't want dinner. We came home, she laid on the couch and then....threw up. Sigh. So, no school for her today, no gymnastics this afternoon, and on the couch she'll remain all day. :( She seems in better spirits this morning but so far hasn't eaten since yesterday at lunch. And of course there's the timing of it all, the day Adam goes out of town. Classic. So anyhoo, a lazy day at home for us Winn gals, prayers for my girl are appreciated as our Dallas date can hopefully still happen! The hotel is paid for, American Girl reservations are made, etc. Oh, and prayers for Adam as he interviews all day are appreciated too. :) Thanks, all! xo

its that time of year again...

It was a good weekend! The 3 of us went out to dinner on Friday night and had breakfast for dinner -yum. Saturday B had a friend over most of the day and then I took them to a bday party, raced home, made this bundt cake, then our friends came over for dinner (I made those chicken skewers I blogged just a bit ago). I also made these homemade biscuits (twice in the past week, so easy and so good)! Sunday we had church, then went out to lunch with friends, then I was on the phone/Skype, etc. for 4 hours straight with a friend and momsie. Then last night we had some friends come over and we all watched the grammys together. A fun weekend!

I find that I'm repeating myself a lot lately as its that time of year when folks start asking "So, what's next?" And the answer is.............. (drum roll)................ we don't know. And likely, we won't know for another month or so. Its the all too familiar waiting game yet again. Since we are currently in year 8 of this process I definitely handle it differently now that I'm older and wiser (wink wink) and just generally feel more comfortable with the situation, but I'm not gonna lie...its still hard. The unknowns, the questions, the what-ifs, the if this then that scenarios that Adam and I go over and over and over. I always get back to the same conclusion though, that God is faithful and no matter what, He will still be faithful, life will still go on, and things will ultimately be okay even if they don't look like we want them to. That I know for sure. I promise to keep everyone updated as I know anything, but for now, we wait. I can tell you this, at the start of this process there were 3 possibilities, one on the east coast, one on the west coast, and one in Texas. This week the east coast option didn't say "no" but they indicated we were on the "long list" so we can deduce that that option is out. So, that leaves the west coast and Texas. Stay tuned. :)

I've been a bad blogger lately! I have several sessions to blog I just have been in editing mode and not blogger mode...I'll try and remedy that soon (as I know some of you come strictly for pictures...sorry!) :)

All in all, 2014 is being good to us, I hope the same for all of you! xo

Florence dropped the ball, sickness, and "snow"

Oh life, so funny all the little details that make up a day and the turns they can go. Poor Adam came down with a nasty stomach bug in the middle of the night 2 nights ago. He pretty much laid around all day yesterday but woke up this morning feeling much better -poor guy. I've been sanitizing everything he touches and sleeping in the guest room -so far B and I have avoided this nastiness! Sweet B, my girl is loosing teeth like crazy! She lost a tooth at school 2 days ago, put the tooth in her tooth fairy pillow and poor Florence the tooth fairy didn't make it!! YIKES! First time Florence has dropped the ball. I'm trying to cut her a little slack but it was heart breaking to see B wake up the next morning, eagerly check her pillow only to see that her tooth was still there...and then, she cried. Ay yi yi... #parentfail. Florence came last night though! Hooray! She only left $1.50 versus the $2 she typically leaves (Adam and I have deduced that due to her not coming the first night, she must be over loaded with kiddos loosing teeth and therefore is running low on cash -logical explanation right?!).

In other news, it "snowed" here in Texas yesterday...so, a 2 hour delayed start for B at school today and Adam's classes were cancelled! Who hoo!! Its so funny, there isn't any snow on the roads, and there is a light thin white layer on the grass but that's about it. Oh well, you know me, I'll use any reason to sleep in that I can get! (truth be told, I turned off the alarm when it went off before I realized school was delayed...I may or may not need a real reason :). Don't judge...its only first grade and on Fridays she has mass first thing and we're not even Catholic so, that's legit right?! :)

I'm glad Adam is on the mend today, he leaves next week for his second round of interviews so I'm glad this sickness is getting out of the way! While he's going to be gone I thought it was a great time to plan something special for me and my girl to do, just the two of us. So, I just booked a fancy hotel (for super cheap, thanks cheap tickets!) and made reservations for lunch at the American Girl Doll store in Dallas! You can't make "hair appointments" for the dolls in advance but I'm really hoping they can squeeze Kanani in, poor girl really needs some work done! B and I always hate it when daddy's gone but hopefully this will soften the blow. :)

I think that's all the news here for now. I gotta go get B ready for school, hooray for late starts! Have a great weekend, all! xo

chill 3 day weekend

We had a nice, chill 3 day weekend. We hung out with friends, lounged on the couch, ate pizza, went to the farmers market (finally!), I went to Dallas with a couple friends, etc. It was a nice weekend with little on the agenda which I think we all liked. Today is going to be a low key day, I have lots of editing to do, and I need to make dessert for mi casa tonight -that's about it. I'm thinking of going to a movie by myself this morning just b/c I can... we'll see. :) I just blogged some cute kiddos over HERE, check it out! xo

busy morning

Whew! I feel like today should be over and its only 1:15pm! I was up an at 'em early today shooting out in Robinson, then visited with a friend who I don't see enough out in Woodway, then raced back to Waco to volunteer at B's school, and just got home and have a bunch of editing starring me in the face. BUT, I finally got my new dining room chairs so I feel like the dining room makeover is complete! I wanted to share a picture I snapped this morning, really, even though its just paint it makes a big difference, no? I'm really happy with the change, the whole mood of the room feels different and I'm loving that.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! See you back here soon! xo

good, quick, yummy dinner

Its been a busy morning! I only accomplished half of my to-do list yesterday so I've been working on that this morning. I needed a break from wedding contracts, business taxes, returning client emails, etc. so I'm blogging instead. :)

So, last night I made a super easy dinner and it was a BIG hit so I wanted to share. I had some left over chicken in the fridge and had most of the ingredients this recipe required so, I threw it in a bowl, let it marinate for an hour or so, Adam tossed the skewers on the grill and voila! Brennan and Adam both told me several times how good it was and that it should be a "regular" around here.

HERE is the recipe for honey-lime chicken skewers (And thanks to my friend/neighbor Kristen who let me run over and borrow honey at the last second :). *I left out the siracha, too spicy for little B.

I hope you're all enjoying your Tuesday afternoon. Here is a peek of a sweet newborn that will be blogged soon. xo

Monday Morning

This January is going by so much faster than any that I can recall for years! I'm not sure what to attribute that to but it seems crazy to me that its almost half over already! This weekend was good! Friday night we had some friends over and stayed up late chatting on the couch with a bowl of popcorn. I'm so thankful for friendships where there doesn't need to be a plan for the night, just a bowl of microwave popcorn, a couch and hours later you wonder where the time went...those are the best. Saturday I photographed a wedding all day, it was the most beautiful January day in Waco and I was so thankful for such lovely weather to shoot this couple as they start their life together. I collapsed on the couch Saturday evening and Adam and I rented a movie and got BBQ take out. Sunday we had church, then spent the afternoon lounging at our friends house while the kiddos played and last night we had a volunteer appreciation dinner that our church provided at the Dr. Pepper Museum. All in all, a great weekend!

On tap today, quarterly business taxes (yuck!), editing a newborn session, grocery store, make a treat for Bible Study tonight (which is at my house so...also, tidying up the place :), and a bit of laundry that I didn't get to this weekend. Nothing too exciting but I'm looking forward to a productive day of normal life after the holidays. I hope you all have a great Monday after a restful weekend! I blogged this sweet newborn session so head on over HERE so check it out! xo

getting some stuff done

I don't know why it is so hard for me to hunker down and put away "Christmas"away all at once. I've done a stellar job and doing part of it stopping, doing another part, stopping, etc.. Sigh...I wish my mom was here to do it, there, I said it. She's much more efficient than I am and I'm SO over it already. Anyhoo -on my to-do list today is to officially wrap that up. I also need to blog, clean, run some errands and for some reason I think I might bake a cake (that one is really gonna help with my new years goal of shedding pounds ;). Its yucky outside today which makes me want to stay in and be cozy. I was talking with my mother in law recently about how even if you long for a day where you have nothing to do, the reality is there is always something you could do or should be doing so really, that's just likely not gonna happen...in her words "until your dead." So, today is one of those days for me. :)

I realized I still haven't posted pics of the dining room makeover, truth be told... its still not done! I ordered new chairs about a month ago, was told they were shipped on Dec. 20th, then was told they were delivered on Dec. 22nd (they weren't -and really, who delivers within 2 days and on a Sunday?!), so yeah, someone dropped the ball somewhere and they STILL haven't arrived. Once they are here, I will finally take pics to share. I'm honestly really excited to see it "done" myself!

I hope everyone out there is enjoying 2014 and that it is being good to them. I typically wish January away but so far, I'm enjoying it and anticipating what it will bring! Now, head on over HERE to see my latest maternity session! xo

Happy New Year ~ Welcome 2014!

Happy New Year, everyone! That was a long blog lull! It has been so fun having Kelly here and stepping away from the computer (and laundry) for nearly 2 weeks! Her flight was cancelled due to crazy weather so we got to have her for an extra day! I feel like my mind is swirling with ideas, thoughts, randomness, etc. This new years snuck up on me a bit, typically I have given some resolutions some thought, have written them down, and have a plan - but alas, haven't even thought about it yet! I'm behind! I try to break it down into personal goals and business goals, I plan to give that some thought today and get a plan in action! I love a fresh start, a clean slate, the newness of a new year. I want to be better this year, I want to be more gracious, I want to take more risks, I want to travel to new places, I want to make really fun memories with my daughter as she gets older and can do more/remember more, etc. I'm not sure what this all looks like but I'm excited to give it some thought and be intentional. And of course theres those pounds I'd like to shed. :) Ah the post-holiday pant tightness -boo!

I think 2014 is going to have some major mile stones for our family and I'm excited to watch it unfold and see what the Lord has in store. Cheers to a new year!!

I do think reflecting on God's goodness this past year is important so I don't want to leave that out! Major things/good things/hard things from 2013:

*Valentine's Day with Adam! Surprising him with a date including spending the night at a hotel -that was fun, loved it. Great memories made with my favorite person.

*San Antonio for spring break! It was such a great trip and so fun to take B to sea world, the river walk, the Alamo, etc. Great memories with our family of 3.

*Shooting  a wedding in Seattle, and taking photos in Pike's Place Market! This was a crazy experience and I'm beyond honored that I was trusted to do it.

*Shooting a wedding of 2 of my mi casa darlings. This was a neat/bittersweet experience. So fun to watch my kiddos grow up, so hard to watch them "leave the nest" and start their own mi casa, etc. Was so touched that they wanted me to capture their big day.

*Another year going by of Adam not getting a job, the frustrations that come with that, but being reminded of God's faithfulness in the journey.

*Celebrating 13 years of marriage with my groom and going on a FABULOUS cruise! This was definitely a highlight for me, we loved our week together and couldn't have asked for a better time. Our first "legit" vacation in 8 years and it was wonderful.

*I had a life-changing surgery in June that I would be remiss not to mention. A long time goal of mine, something I did for myself and am beyond thankful for.

*CABO SAN LUCAS! Another huge blessing/amazing time! Our friends graciously invited us to join them in using their time share for a week. This was an opportunity that left me pinching myself -it was like a dream. SO thankful for this fun week with my husband and 6 of our dear friends.

*My dearest Kelly graduating with her PsyD! I have no words for my regret in not being physically present at her graduation but am SO proud of her and her hard work in accomplishing this goal.

*B starting the 1st grade! My baby growing up and watching her become a bigger girl.

*Going to California to shoot/visit friends, a whirlwind for sure but so good for my heart.

*San Fran for my birthday! I love the tradition of Doug, Kemi, Mike, Adam and I at a Duck game and celebrating my birthday together! One of my favorite parts of the year.

*Mike's traditional visit for Thanksgiving, we always have so much fun!

*Kelly coming for Christmas, our trip to San Antonio for the Alamo bowl with Mike and cheering the Ducks onto victory!

All in all this was a great year for our family, we were extremely blessed by the experiences we were able to participate in. Adam and I worked more in this past year probably than we ever have, but we also played hard too and I'm beyond thankful for God's goodness to us. I know some years are harder than others, and I know some years feel like endless waiting, or hoping that doesn't seem to come to fruition -I get that. My friend Jen wrote a blog about her year that was so encouraging and I wanted to share it -check it out HERE. I am reminded once again that God doesn't forget us, or our wants and desires -he is faithful and always working/active in our lives. His love never changes and his mercies are new every morning - I don't know about you but I cling to that b/c I know how desperately I need that grace. As we start 2014 I encourage you to live basking in the overwhelming grace that surrounds us, don't take it for granted, but relish in its fresh starts each day -its life changing. Happy New Year, friends. xo
